Obama calls for new beginning between U.S., Muslims
Way to make a stand, Obama. You know, yesterday there were articles out stating that he was going to call on the Arab nations to speak out against Iran's nuclear program. i guess that didn't really happen. The only actual bit of policy that he laid out was that the U.S. would not back Israel's expansion into the West Bank. Ok, I can accept that, but what in return? A request for the promise that Palestinians cease the violence? That's it?
"Obama's speech, interrupted by applause and occasional shouts of "we love you," was an effort to restore the tarnished U.S. image among many of the more than 1 billion Muslims around the world, badly damaged by the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and the treatment of U.S. military detainees."
Ok, I get it. Yes, the wars made us less popular in the world. For everyone against the war in Iraq, I get it. Even if I agree that we shouldn't have gone into Iraq, this statement pisses me off. Why isn't there ever a call for the Muslim nations, the Middle-Eastern countries that depend on our oil consumption, the countries that have promoted and been responsible for the majority of the acts of terrorism against the United States since 1979, to make an effort to repair their image in the United States? Why aren't their leaders coming over here and assuring us, the American people, that they are going to help fight terrorism and thanking us for making them rich by buying their oil?

U.S. Astronauts Might Hitch Rides on Chinese Spacecraft Essentially, this article is addressing the end of the shuttle program by NASA in 2010. The government has been looking to end the shuttle program for years now and they are trying to keep a hard date of 2010. Unfortunately, they don't care whether we have something to replace it before ending it. The shuttle is the only vehicle we have that is capable of carrying astronauts to the International Space Station and the Orion crew exploration vehicle is not expected to be ready until 2015, at the earliest. What does this mean to our space program? According to John Holden, President Barack Obama's science adviser, it could mean relying on China and Russia to take us there. Read 24 Comments... >> |

Another bit of news has come out about hackers stealing information from our defense systems. Although there is no degree of certainty, it looks like the hacks originated in China. I have read multiple reports stating that China has been hiring hackers essentially as mercenaries to carry out their espionage. Some of the attacks we've been seeing seem to be simple penetration tests while others are apparently for data gathering. The latest reported by the Wall Street Journal involves the collection of data concerning the Joint Strike Fighter (F-35) program There's not a lot to say on this at the moment that the articles I am posting don't already say. This is something I like to keep an eye on. N. Korea has just kicked out the IAEA inspectors again and are going to activate their nuclear plant again. UN Nuclear inspectors quit N. Korea Meanwhile, Iran is ready to talk about their nuclear plans again. Iran says has new plan to end nuclear standoff And so it goes, round and round. It seems that every time Iran wants to go back to the table for talks, N. Korea is starting their reactor up. Every time N. Korea wants to start talking, Iran walks away from the table. There are reports dating back to the early 1990's that Iran, N. Korea, and China have all cooperated in the research and development of nuclear technology. Iran claims their development is for the peaceful purpose of supplying their citizens with energy. Read 12 Comments... >> |
